Alkpote
Emerging on Évry’s rap scene in the Essonne region at the start of the 2000s, Alkpote gradually established himself as a distinctive voice in French hardcore rap. Born in Paris in 1978 and of Tunisian descent, he first drew attention as part of the duo Unité 2 Feu, active in the mid‑2000s, before pursuing a solo career marked by a strong taste for egotrip, raw imagery and pervasive dark humour. His debut solo album, Les Marches de l’empire (2008), set the foundations for a highly scripted, deliberately provocative universe, followed by L’Empereur contre-attaque (2010) and a series of mixtapes and collaborative projects that anchored him firmly in the independent rap scene. From Inferno (2018) through Monument (2019) and Ogre (2020), Alkpote intensified crossovers with trap aesthetics and darker sonics, increasing guest appearances with a new generation of francophone rappers while maintaining a technical flow and a penchant for cinematic and literary references. Frequently present on stage and in rap‑related audiovisual formats, he cultivates an excessive persona that goes with a highly coded writing style, combining stylistic performances, self‑aware irony and a systematic probing of language’s limits in francophone hip hop.
