Hulder
Project led by Belgian musician Hulder, based in the United States after a childhood in Europe, the eponymous formation is rooted in a strand of black metal strongly marked by the Scandinavian legacy of the early 1990s. After several demos and private recordings, Hulder was noticed in the underground at the end of the 2010s with the cassette Ascending the Raven Stone (2018), then the EP Embraced by Darkness Mysts of Nocturn (2019), before compiling early tracks on De Oproeping van Middeleeuwse Duisternis (2020). The first full-length album, Godslastering: Hymns of a Forlorn Peasantry, appeared in 2021 and established a style blending abrasive guitars, clear melodic structures and medieval-inspired keyboard layers, with lyrics focused on bleak rurality, ancient myths and feudal imagery. Hulder continued in 2022 with The Eternal Fanfare and in 2024 with the second album Verses in Oath, moving toward more developed compositions while retaining a raw production. In the studio Hulder performs all instruments and vocals alone; live shows rely on a stage line-up to translate this atmospheric, aggressive black metal on North American and European tours.
