Zomby

Active since the late 2000s in the United Kingdom, Zomby develops electronic music that moves between dubstep, jungle, instrumental grime, UK garage and early-1990s rave reminiscences. His first releases appeared in 2007, followed by the Zomby EP on Hyperdub in 2008, then the album Where Were U in ’92? in the same year, where one hears a blend of breakbeats, 8‑bit textures and direct references to the British hardcore continuum. Over the years, Zomby has evolved this base into more hazy and fragmented compositions, often short, built on muffled bass, spectral melodies and a pronounced sense of ellipse. This direction was sharpened with Dedication in 2011 on 4AD, then with the double album With Love in 2013, which further broadened his spectrum between urban ambient, fractured rhythms and grime echoes. Zomby subsequently released Let’s Jam I & II in 2015, Ultra in 2016 on Hyperdub, with several collaborations, then Mercury’s Rainbow in 2017, presented as a recording drawn from older sessions. A figure associated with the most porous British electronic scenes—between club music, experimentation and pirate radio heritage—Zomby has maintained a discography marked by Hyperdub, 4AD, XL Recordings, Big Dada and Werkdiscs.
