Vomitory

Formed in Sweden in 1989 around guitarist Urban Gustafsson and bassist Ronnie Olson, Vomitory belongs to the most straightforward strand of Scandinavian death metal, characterized by a dense sound, fast rhythms and guttural vocals with no turn toward the melodic. Initially active as a trio and later consolidated through several lineup changes during the 1990s, Vomitory released a series of demos before issuing Raped in Their Own Blood in 1996 and Redemption in 1999. The band then reached lasting stability with Urban Gustafsson, drummer Tobias Gustafsson and bassist–vocalist Erik Rundqvist, who joined in the late 1990s, and went on to release Revelation Nausea (2001), Blood Rapture (2002), Primal Massacre (2004), Terrorize Brutalize Sodomize (2007), Carnage Euphoria (2009) and Opus Mortis VIII (2011). Following an announced hiatus in 2013 and a reunion show in 2017, Vomitory officially resumed activities in 2018 and returned to the studio with All Heads Are Gonna Roll in 2023. Within the European extreme scene, Vomitory remains associated with a compact, aggressive brand of death metal focused on rhythmic impact and compositional efficiency.
