Exhumed

Originally from San Jose, California, Exhumed formed in the early 1990s around guitarist and vocalist Matt Harvey within the US death metal and grindcore scene. The early years were marked by a series of demos and split releases that established the band in an extreme, gore-oriented register. The debut album Gore Metal (1998) codified a blend of fast death metal and grindcore, with vocals alternating between deep growls and high-pitched screams; it was followed by Slaughtercult (2000) and Anatomy Is Destiny (2003), which introduced clearer song structures and thrash-derived melodic elements. After a hiatus in the mid-2000s the band resumed activity—still centered on Harvey and a revolving core of musicians—and released All Guts, No Glory (2011) on Relapse Records. Necrocracy (2013), Death Revenge (2017), Horror (2019) and To The Dead (2022) continued the aesthetic of rapid tempos, razor-sharp riffs and themes drawn from horror cinema and medical imagery, while the band has remained active on club and festival stages across North America and Europe.
