Yellowcard

Formed in 1997 in Jacksonville, Florida, Yellowcard initially developed within a hardcore punk register before moving toward a more pop-punk direction with the arrival of Ryan Key on vocals in the late 1990s. Yellowcard’s distinctiveness in the scene comes from Sean Mackin’s violin, woven into songs that combine melodic choruses, edgy guitars and hints of alternative rock. After early records Midget Tossing (1997), Where We Stand (1999) and One for the Kids (2001), Yellowcard scaled up with Ocean Avenue in 2003, an album that firmly placed the band on the American rock and pop-punk circuit, notably on Warped Tour lineups. Subsequent releases showed broader, denser songwriting on Lights and Sounds (2006) and Paper Walls (2007). After a first hiatus in 2008, Yellowcard returned in 2010 and released When You’re Through Thinking, Say Yes (2011), Southern Air (2012), Lift a Sail (2014) and Yellowcard (2016), before announcing a split in 2017. Reactivated in 2022, the quartet hit the road again, released the EP Childhood Eyes in 2023 and Better Days in 2025. Today Yellowcard comprises Ryan Key, Sean Mackin, Ryan Mendez and Josh Portman.
