Covenant
Born in Helsingborg in southern Sweden, Covenant took shape in the late 1980s around Eskil Simonsson, Joakim Montelius and Clas Nachmanson, before emerging in the early 1990s with the track “The Replicant” and the 1994 album Dreams of a Cryotank. Initially rooted in a cold, taut EBM vein, fed by European synthpop and industrial electronics, Covenant gradually broadened its songwriting toward more melodic, pop-oriented formats while retaining a dark, precise, club-linked aesthetic. Sequencer (1996) and Europa (1998) accompanied this evolution, continued by United States of Mind (2000) and Northern Light (2002), where vocals and choruses took on a more central role. Long established on Europe’s electronic and alternative stages, Covenant also toured North America and shared bills with Haujobb; Daniel Myer later became a long-standing associate of the band and contributed to Modern Ruin in 2011. The band’s discography also includes Skyshaper (2006), Leaving Babylon (2013) and The Blinding Dark (2016), maintaining a constant balance between EBM pulse, synthpop lines and more contemplative electronic atmospheres.
