Meatbodies
Formed in Los Angeles in 2011 around Chad Ubovich, Meatbodies emerged from the California psych-rock scene with a sound that blends psychedelic rock, garage rock and hard-rock impulses, driven by saturated guitars and often compact song structures. Before Meatbodies, Chad Ubovich played with Mikal Cronin and toured with Ty Segall, then joined Fuzz — a trajectory that highlights the band's ties to the American West Coast. Initially active as Chad and the Meatbodies, the project released a cassette in 2013 before shortening the name to Meatbodies and issuing a self-titled debut album in 2014 on In the Red Records. That was followed by Alice in 2017, conceived as an album with a loose narrative thread, and 333 in 2021, recorded in a more domestic setting with drummer Dylan Fujioka during the pandemic. Meatbodies returned with Flora Ocean Tiger Bloom in 2024. Long organized around a rotating lineup, Meatbodies today comprises Chad Ubovich, Dylan Fujioka, Noah Guevara and Casey Hanson. Their music pairs rhythmic tension, slightly off-kilter melodies and psychedelic stretches within a dense, direct rock format.
