Tornado Wallace
Initially active on Melbourne’s house scene in Australia, Tornado Wallace — the alias of producer and DJ Lewie Day — has, since the early 2010s, developed a discography oriented toward house and disco/nu‑disco, coloured by Balearic and ambient sonorities. Tornado Wallace became known through a series of maxi singles on labels such as Delusions of Grandeur, ESP Institute and Beats in Space Records, where he honed a style that combines moderate tempos, warm synthetic textures and a narrative approach to tracks, often close to travel music or an imaginary soundtrack. After settling in Berlin, Tornado Wallace anchored his DJ practice in the European club circuit and on international tours, linking more experimental studio productions with dancefloor selections. The album Lonely Planet (Running Back, 2017) marks a significant step, featuring more expansive writing, openness to downtempo atmospheres, cosmic motifs and constructions near instrumental synth‑pop. EPs like Desperate Pleasures (Running Back, 2020) extend this exploration in a more directly club‑oriented register while retaining the melodic and atmospheric dimension that characterises Tornado Wallace’s work.
