Maara
Based in Montréal, Canada, Maara has been developing an electronic music project since the early 2020s that is closely tied to the club scene, sitting between trance, techno, house and breakbeats, with crisp melodies, fast rhythms and a taste for playful displacements. Maara emerged in 2021 with the EP Ultimate Reward on NAFF Recordings and followed the same year with Potion Activated on Sonido Isla, which features the track The Forbidden Plum. Her discography continued with further releases on independent electronic labels, including Ancient Records, and with collaborative tracks such as Serving Cunt and I Wanna Scissor with My Hot Ex. Alongside her productions, Maara has built a DJ practice focused on direct, mobile dance music, where rave inheritances intersect with more contemporary forms of house and techno. Present on North American and European stages, Maara situates her trajectory within a network of clubs and collectives attentive to hybrid aesthetics and current uses of dance music.
