Nabihah Iqbal

Nabihah Iqbal was born in London into a British family of Pakistani origin. She began releasing music under the alias Throwing Shade, adopting an approach that blended experimental electronics, club-oriented formats and occasional spoken vocals. From 2013 her early tracks and EPs — including 19 Jewels (2014), Fate Xclusive (2015) and House of Silk (2016) — defined this first period, alongside vocal collaborations on early Sophie tracks and work as a DJ and radio host on NTS. In 2017 she chose to release records under her own name and shifted her songwriting toward more direct songs built around guitars, synths and a clear voice, situated between indie, alternative rock, cold wave and atmospheric pop. Her debut album Weighing of the Heart (2017) appeared on Ninja Tune, and she continued in this vein with Dreamer (2023), where melodic drive and electronic textures coexist in a looser format, between the independent stage, radio culture and the practice of DJ sets.
