Suzan & Freek

Formed around singer and keyboardist Suzan Stortelder and guitarist/vocalist Freek Rikkerink, the Dutch duo Suzan & Freek come from the Achterhoek region in eastern the Netherlands. They work in a Dutch-language pop vein with folk-tinged and songwriting-oriented elements. The pair first gained attention in the mid-2010s with a series of short, reworked covers published online, which established their vocal duo and an acoustic aesthetic centered on guitar, piano and tight harmonies. From 2018 the project shifted to original compositions in Dutch, with the single “Als het avond is” marking a decisive step and paving the way for more personal lyrics and melodies. The debut studio album “Gedeeld door ons” was released in 2019 and set the foundation for Suzan & Freek’s universe, between intimate ballads and mid-tempo pop songs, followed in 2022 by “Dagen van goud”, which continued exploring relationships, everyday life and familiar situations. On stage, Suzan & Freek mainly perform as a duo accompanied by a band on the Dutch and Flemish pop circuit, and they occasionally collaborate with other artists of their generation, notably singer-rapper Snelle, while maintaining an identity centered on the Dutch language and an accessible song format.
