Spidergawd

Formed in Trondheim, Norway, in 2013 around Per Borten, Kenneth Kapstad, Bent Sæther and baritone saxophonist Rolf Martin Snustad, Spidergawd brings together musicians notably from Motorpsycho and Cadillac and operates within a heavy rock vein that blends hard rock, stoner and psychedelic rock. The band builds a sound based on massive guitar riffs, a very present rhythm section, melodic vocals and a prominent use of the baritone saxophone, which adds a distinct color to the usual guitar-driven rock spectrum. Spidergawd has released a series of numbered albums on Crispin Glover Records, from Spidergawd (2014) to Spidergawd VII (2023), issued at a steady pace and accompanied by tours across Scandinavian and European rock stages. Across the records the lineup evolves, with Bent Sæther replaced by Hallvard Gaardløs on bass and the arrival of guitarist Brynjar Takle Ohr, while Kenneth Kapstad remains a central figure on drums. Spidergawd’s compositions draw heavily on the aesthetic of 1970s rock—efficient structures, extended solos and a marked taste for psychedelic atmospheres—while maintaining tight songwriting that secures the band’s lasting presence in the contemporary hard rock landscape.
