Barcella

Originally from Reims, singer-songwriter Barcella has been developing since the mid-2000s a francophone song style at the crossroads of slam, acoustic pop and folk. After beginnings on local stages and in venues dedicated to contemporary music, he built a repertoire focused on text, wordplay and a spoken-sung approach that draws as much on poetry as on everyday storytelling. A first album, La Boîte à musique, was released in 2009 and established an intimate universe supported by predominantly acoustic instrumentation. Charabia (2012) pushed the aesthetic further toward pop arrangements while retaining rhythmic, narrative songwriting. Puzzle (2014) continued the search for a balance between lyric-driven songs, accessible melodies and passages close to spoken word. In 2018, Soleil presented compositions in which the melodic dimension takes greater prominence, with varied tempos and constant attention to French prosody. Regularly performing in concert across France, both solo and with accompanying musicians, Barcella develops on stage a form of song in which diction, direct address to the audience and the storytelling aspect occupy a central place.
