Les Wriggles
Born out of the French café‑theatre scene in the mid‑1990s, Les Wriggles developed a repertoire of French‑language songs blending humour, social satire and everyday situations, driven by collective vocal work and a carefully staged stage presence. The group, originally made up of five singer‑guitarists, gradually established themselves on Paris’s small stages and then on tour, in a format close to musical theatre where lyric writing plays a central role. Les Wriggles released their first studio album, 'Justice avec des saucisses', in 1999, followed by 'Ah bah ouais, mais bon…' in 2002, which cemented their multi‑voice style alternating sung sketches, offbeat ballads and caustic vignettes. These were followed by 'Moi d'abord' in 2005 and 'Tant pis ! Tant mieux !' in 2007, while the lineup changed through departures and replacements without altering the artistic direction founded on vocal harmony and ironic commentary on everyday life. After a hiatus around 2009, Les Wriggles returned to the venues a few years later in a new configuration, updating their repertoire and creating new songs in the continuity of this comic, theatrical chanson aesthetic.
