Soko
Born Stéphanie Sokolinski in 1985 in Bordeaux, Soko has built a career between indie songwriting and auteur cinema. Settling in Paris as a teenager, she drew attention in the mid-2000s with the song 'I'll Kill Her', which placed her in a lo-fi pop vein tinged with folk and melancholic irony. Her debut album, 'I Thought I Was an Alien' (2012), established an intimate world with sparse arrangements and lyrics focused on relationships and vulnerability. With 'My Dreams Dictate My Reality' (2015), produced by Ross Robinson and marked by Ariel Pink's presence, Soko moved toward a more electric sound influenced by new wave, post-punk and synthetic textures. 'Feel Feelings' (2020) continued this introspective writing in a slower pop style centered on the voice and a dreamy atmosphere. Alongside her music, Soko pursues an acting career in French and international films, reinforcing an image of a hybrid artist at the crossroads of indie scenes, cinema and alternative culture between France and the United States.
