Sivert Høyem

Born in Sortland, in northern Norway, Sivert Høyem established himself at the end of the 1990s as Madrugada's voice, the Oslo-based alternative rock band's dark and taut sound, between electric guitars, nocturnal ballads and post-punk heritage. With Madrugada, he contributed to the albums Industrial Silence in 1999, The Nightly Disease in 2001, Grit in 2002, The Deep End in 2005 and then Madrugada in 2008, recorded after the death of guitarist Robert Burås. In parallel, Sivert Høyem developed a solo career where his writing opened to a broader rock, sometimes folk, with a marked attention to slow melodies and sober arrangements. His first solo album, Ladies and Gentlemen of the Opposition, appeared in 2004, followed by Exiles in 2006 with the group The Volunteers, then Moon Landing in 2009, Long Slow Distance in 2011, Endless Love in 2014, Lioness in 2016 and On an Island in 2024. Sivert Høyem's music rests on a deep voice immediately identifiable, a taste for melancholic atmospheres and writing that moves between indie rock, Americana and folk song. Settled durably between personal projects, tours and Madrugada reunions, Sivert Høyem has also occasionally collaborated with other artists, notably as a guest on a track by Satyricon in 2013.
