Thomas Dybdahl
Born in 1979 in Sandnes in southwestern Norway, Thomas Dybdahl develops his work between folk songwriting, refined pop and touches of soul, with a marked attention to acoustic arrangements and group dynamics. After a stint with the band Quadraphonics in the late 1990s, he embarked on a solo career in the early 2000s with a series of albums that established an intimate writing style, such as “...That Great October Sound” (2002), “Stray Dogs” (2003) and “One Day You’ll Dance for Me, New York City” (2004), followed by “Science” (2006) and “Waiting for That One Clear Moment” (2010). Firmly established on the Norwegian and subsequently European scene, he has toured extensively in clubs and festivals while also performing as singer and guitarist with the group The National Bank. Dybdahl occasionally collaborates with other musicians, notably at the crossroads of pop and electronic music, and also composes music for film and television. With albums like “What’s Left Is Forever” (2013), “The Great Plains” (2017), “All These Things” (2018) and “FEVER” (2020), he continues to build a body of work dominated by English-language vocals, melancholic melodies and spare instrumentation, between contemporary folk and understated soul.
