Sinkane

Born in London to Sudanese parents, having grown up between Sudan and the United States, Ahmed Gallab develops under the name Sinkane a project located at the crossroads of rock, krautrock, psychedelic pop, funk, electronics and influences drawn from Sudanese and African music. Initially active as a sideman, he plays notably with Caribou, Of Montreal, Yeasayer or Eleanor Friedberger before establishing Sinkane as a personal space, where dancing rhythms, flexible guitar lines, keyboards and an open-to-improvisation pop writing coexist without settling into a single register. After the first albums Sinisterals in 2007, Color Voice in 2008 and Sinkane in 2009, he releases Mars in 2012, Mean Love in 2014, Life & Livin’ It in 2017, Dépaysé in 2019, then We Belong in 2024. Sinkane also took part in the Atomic Bomb! Band project devoted to William Onyeabor's repertoire, in which Ahmed Gallab occupies a role as singer and musical director. Across the records and the stage, Sinkane refines a mobile music, marked by groove, transatlantic circulations and a very fluid way of articulating Sudanese, American indie pop and electronic textures.
