Sinik
Born in Paris in 1980 to a French mother and a Kabyle father from Béjaïa, and raised in Les Ulis in the Essonne department, Sinik established from the late 1990s a rap rooted in French hip‑hop, between a conscious strand, a hardcore tone and autobiographical writing. After early steps in L’Amalgame and as part of the Ul’Team Atom collective, Sinik operated in the world of mixtapes, battles and compilations, appearing alongside artists such as Diam’s, Zoxea, Lino and Kool Shen. The maxis Malsain (2000) and Artiste triste (2002), and the street album En attendant l’album (2004), set out a direct style focused on the street, social tensions, prison experience and personal narratives. Sinik then released a series of studio albums that punctuate his career over nearly twenty years: La Main sur le cœur (2005), Sang froid (2006), Le Toit du monde (2007), Ballon d’or (2009), La Plume et le Poignard (2012), Immortel II (2015), Invincible (2019), 8ème Art (2020) and Niksi (2022). His writing remains associated with a measured delivery, sometimes melodic choruses and recurring themes of identity, the suburbs, family ties and disenchantment, in a trajectory that moved from independent rap circuits to stages such as the Bataclan, the Olympia and the Zénith in Paris.
