Shurik'N
Born in Miramas in 1966 and settled in Marseille as a teenager, Shurik'N, whose real name is Geoffroy Mussard, has been active on the Marseille rap and French hip-hop scene since the late 1980s as a member of IAM, a group founded in 1988. Of Malagasy and Réunionnais descent, Shurik'N develops dense writing focused on social observation, personal experience and references to Asian cultures, linked to his practice of martial arts. His rap relies on a measured flow, clear diction and a restrained aesthetic, situated between storytelling, introspection and commentary on reality. After IAM's early releases and L’École du micro d’argent in 1997, Shurik'N released his first solo album, Où je vis, in 1998, which he wrote and produced, then La Garde in 2000, recorded as a duo with Faf Larage, his brother. He continued with Tous m’appellent Shu in 2012 and Adamant-ium in 2016, while remaining active on IAM albums, notably Revoir un printemps (2003), Arts Martiens (2013), Rêvolution (2017), Yasuke (2019), Rimes essentielles (2021) and HHHistory (2023). Shurik'N has also appeared on collaborations with Akhenaton, Freeman, Wallen and several artists from the francophone scene.
