Satoshi Tomiie

Born in Tokyo, Satoshi Tomiie first trained as a classical pianist before turning to electronic music and house. His international trajectory began in the late 1980s with “Tears” (1989), a track co-written with Frankie Knuckles and Robert Owens, which situated him in the exchange between Chicago house, the New York scene and a more melodic Japanese sensibility. Later embedded in the orbit of New York clubs, Satoshi Tomiie worked as a producer, remixer and DJ, moved in the Def Mix environment and later co-founded SAW Recordings with Hector Romero. His repertoire spans deep house, garage house, tech house and more minimal forms, with a writing style built on progressive grooves, clear harmonic lines and club-focused construction without excess. Over the years he has evolved this language toward a cleaner, more mental sound, both in his sets and in releases on SAW and Abstract Architecture. Notable verified entries in his discography include the album Full Lick (2000), followed by New Day (2015) and Magic Hour (2018), reflecting an active career between Japan, the United States and European scenes.
