Tomoki Tamura
Born in Osaka, Tomoki Tamura has developed his career between Japan, London and then Berlin, with an approach to house music informed by the African-American traditions of Chicago and New York, which he blends with a more minimal sensibility and a marked taste for supple grooves and progressive constructions. Initially active in Osaka’s clubs, Tamura moved to London where he launched the Holic night in 2004, a step that established him within the British underground house scene. His sets circulated in venues such as The End/AKA, fabric and Ministry of Sound, while his work as a producer gained momentum. In 2012 he founded the Holic Trax label as a recorded extension of this universe, releasing music that intersects his own productions with those of artists like Satoshi Tomiie, Mr G and Tuccillo. With the latter he also forms the duo Doublet. Tomoki Tamura’s discography subsequently spans several dozen maxi singles released on Holic Trax and its sublabels, remaining centred on deep, percussive and functional house — designed for the club but open in his sets to downtempo, ambient or jazz-leaning selections.
