Jérôme Sydenham

Born in 1967 in Ibadan, Nigeria, Jérôme Sydenham grew up between Africa, England — where he was educated as a teenager — and New York, which he moved to in the early 1980s. His trajectory sits at the intersection of house and techno, marked by a taste for afro rhythms, deep textures and a dancefloor-oriented approach inherited both from the New York scene and a more transnational outlook. Jérôme Sydenham first worked in the music industry as an A&R at Atlantic Records from 1989, then at East West, before launching the label Ibadan Records in 1995 — a central pillar of his career, initially tied to New York and later to Berlin. As a producer and DJ he has built an extensive catalogue spanning deep house, stripped-down techno and more percussive hybrids, both solo and in collaborations with Kerri Chandler, Dennis Ferrer, Function, Carl Craig and Ron Trent. His discography includes, among others, Saturday with Kerri Chandler (2001), Animal Social Club (2012) and S.A.T. with Aybee and Ron Trent (2014). Active on the house and techno scenes since the late 1980s, he has also released productions and remixes for several labels connected to the European and American underground circuits.
