Backstreet Boys

Formed in 1993 in Orlando, Florida, Backstreet Boys is a male vocal group rooted in pop and dance-pop with R&B influences and ballads centered on vocal harmony. Composed of AJ McLean, Howie Dorough, Nick Carter, Kevin Richardson and Brian Littrell, Backstreet Boys first developed in Europe with their self-titled album released in 1996, then broke into the North American market in the late 1990s. The albums Backstreet’s Back (1997), Millennium (1999) and Black & Blue (2000) defined a style combining catchy choruses, heavily choral production and stage choreography, fueled by work with Swedish pop songwriters and producers. After a hiatus and Kevin Richardson’s temporary departure in 2006, Backstreet Boys continued with Never Gone (2005), Unbreakable (2007) and This Is Us (2009), before reuniting their original lineup and moving toward an adult pop vein with In a World Like This (2013) and DNA (2019). The group maintains a regular presence on stage, ranging from major international tours to more intimate formats and a Las Vegas residency, while securing a lasting place in the pop history of the 1990s and 2000s.
