Born out of Los Angeles’ garage-psych circuit in the early 2010s, Levitation Room develops a psychedelic rock flavored with garage, sixties pop and surf, featuring hazy melodies, flexible tempos and a marked taste for floating atmospheres. Levitation Room first drew attention on the Californian DIY scene with a string of singles and EPs, before releasing the album Ethos in 2016 and Headspace in 2019. Their sound rests on short, undulating songs where vocal harmonies, keyboards and reverbed guitars reference both American psych-rock and a more melodic West Coast pop tradition. While retaining this retro foundation, the band has expanded its songwriting toward broader, more nuanced pieces, while remaining tied to the garage and psych scenes of Southern California. Active on the American independent circuits, Levitation Room belongs to a generation of bands that reactivate the legacy of the 1960s with a contemporary approach to indie rock.
