Mother Mother
On Quadra Island in British Columbia, Ryan Guldemond founded Mother Mother in the mid-2000s with his sister Molly Guldemond. Initially a sort of electric folk outfit, they later moved to Vancouver and became part of the local indie rock scene. Expanded into a quintet around Ryan and Molly Guldemond, keyboardist and vocalist Jasmin Parkin, bassist Mike Young and drummer Ali Siadat, Mother Mother developed an alternative rock sound defined by prominent vocal harmonies, blending pop structures, folk touches and a taste for rhythmic breaks. Early albums such as Touch Up (2007) and O My Heart (2008) established a world of lyrics dealing with identity, social alienation and private obsessions, which the band evolved into denser textures with The Sticks (2012) and No Culture (2017). From the late 2010s the group stepped up touring across North America and Europe, while several older tracks circulated widely online and drew new listeners to Mother Mother. The albums Inside (2021) and Grief Chapter (2024) continue this trajectory, refining a sound that sits between melodic indie rock, new wave accents and more introspective ballads.
