Miss Li

Born Linda Therese Karlsson in Borlänge, Sweden, and later based in Stockholm, Miss Li has developed since the mid-2000s a piano-centered pop songwriting style informed by cabaret, blues and touches of jazz. She made her record debut with Late Night Heartbroken Blues in 2006 and quickly followed with God Put a Rainbow in the Sky and Songs of a Rag Doll in 2007, establishing a format of direct, melodic songs often driven by a lively, theatrical delivery. Across subsequent albums—from Dancing the Whole Way Home (2009) to Beats & Bruises (2011), Tangerine Dream (2012) and Wolves (2013)—Miss Li expanded her repertoire toward a broader pop sound without abandoning her taste for contrasting arrangements and taut choruses. Her trajectory also includes Swedish television with Så mycket bättre and occasional collaborations, notably with Lars Winnerbäck on Om du lämnade mig nu. After a period of retreat in the mid-2010s, she resumed activity with A Woman’s Guide to Survival in 2017, followed by Underbart i all misär and its English version Wonderful Misery in 2021, and Livet, döden, skiten däremellan in 2024. Alternating between English- and Swedish-language songs, Miss Li retains a distinctive pop—direct, melancholic and often ironic.
