Michael Schulte

Trained early in singing and guitar, Michael Schulte—born in 1990 in Dollerup in northern Germany—gradually made his mark on the German-language pop scene after uploading cover videos to YouTube in the late 2000s. Noticed for that work, he took part in the inaugural season of The Voice of Germany in 2011, reached the final and launched a professional career as a singer-songwriter. Working in melodic pop with folk and soft-rock inflections, he developed a largely anglophone repertoire centered on ballads driven by voice and guitar, with intimate lyrics about family, bereavement and personal relationships. From the mid-2010s he released several studio albums and EPs that consolidated this aesthetic while gradually incorporating more electronic production elements on some tracks. In 2018 he represented Germany at the Eurovision Song Contest in Lisbon with "You Let Me Walk Alone", finishing fourth and substantially broadening his audience across Europe. Since then Schulte has alternated club and mid-size venue tours at home and abroad, studio collaborations with pop and dance producers, and regular single releases that continue his accessible, melody- and songwriter-focused pop.
