Atjazz

Under the name Atjazz, Martin Iveson has built a central presence in the British deep house, broken beat and nu-jazz scenes since the mid-1990s, with a writing style that blends groove house, soul harmonies and jazz textures while remaining firmly rooted in the club context. Having moved from the north-east of England to the Midlands in the early 1990s, Atjazz first worked in video games at Core Design before committing full-time to production. His first EP, Story, was released in 1996, followed by the album That Something in 1998, quickly succeeded by a steady output of remixes and collaborations. Over the years Atjazz has developed a flexible, finely detailed sound — warm, rhythmic and strongly focused on vocal work — leading him to rework tracks by Nitin Sawhney, Jazzanova, Omar and Bob Sinclar, and to collaborate with Charles Webster on the Version project. After the Mantis Recordings label venture, Atjazz launched Atjazz Record Company in 2009, a vehicle for his productions, collaborations and a significant portion of his work as a DJ-producer. He remains associated with precise, soulful electronics situated between deep house, broken beat and the jazz-funk tradition.
