Jimpster
Under the name Jimpster, Jamie Odell has, since the late 1990s, developed a trajectory spanning deep house, house, electronica, acid jazz and hints of jungle, with a sound that is both club-oriented and melodic. Born in Braintree, Essex, Jimpster grew up in a jazz-funk environment, which partly explains his taste for smooth textures, detailed rhythms and harmonies rooted in soul and broken beat. In 1996 he launched Freerange Records with Tom Roberts, later followed by the Delusions of Grandeur label — both outfits long associated with the British and European house scenes. Alongside his work as a producer and DJ, Jimpster was also a member of the improvised electronica collective The Bays from 2002 to 2007. His discography under his own name includes the albums Martian Arts (1997), Messages From the Hub (1999), Domestic Science (2002), Amour (2006), Porchlight and Rocking Chairs (2013) and Silent Stars (2017). He has also released numerous EPs and remixes, including a reworking of Bob Marley's '400 Years', and has released music under the aliases Audiomontage and Franc Spangler.
