Mella Dee

London-based British producer and DJ Mella Dee develops an aesthetic that sits between groovy techno, sturdy house and the British rave legacy. Born Ryan Aitchison in Doncaster, England, he first drew attention in the early 2010s as part of the garage duo Mista Men before moving solo as Mella Dee with a stronger focus on 4/4 rhythms and industrial textures. His trajectory crystallised around the EP “Techno Disco Tools” and the track “Techno Disco Tool,” released in 2017 on his own label Warehouse Music — a platform he has since used to explore a direct, repetitive vision of club music shaped by warehouse culture, hardcore and jungle. Mella Dee’s productions favour stretched percussive loops, simple, punchy basslines and a measured use of vocal elements, aimed more at the dancefloor than at domestic listening. Active as a DJ in clubs and festivals across the UK and Europe, he issues maxis and singles on Warehouse Music and other independent labels, undertakes occasional collaborations with house and techno producers, and maintains a coherent sonic identity.
