Stef Kamil Carlens

Born in Schoten, Belgium, Stef Kamil Carlens has developed since the late 1980s a career that links indie rock, experimental forms and a more transversal stage practice. First bassist and singer of dEUS between 1989 and 1996, Stef Kamil Carlens simultaneously led Kiss My Jazz before opening a new chapter with A Beatband, then Moondog Jr, later becoming Zita Swoon and Zita Swoon Group — a framework in which he blends songwriting, sonic research, theatre and visual arts. As a singer, guitarist, composer, producer and visual artist, Stef Kamil Carlens creates a mobile music, balancing rock tension, an acoustic approach and a taste for freer arrangements. This trajectory has taken him to Belgian and international stages, as well as to projects for theatre and film. As a solo artist he released Stuck in the Status Quo in 2017, Making Sense of ∞ in 2019 and Be Who You Wanna Be in 2024. In 2023 he also released Play Bob Dylan - Live 2021 2022 with The Gates of Eden, an extension of a stage project devoted to Bob Dylan's repertoire.
