Madi Diaz

Raised between the Pennsylvania countryside, where she spent her early years, and a period at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Madi Diaz belongs to the tradition of American singer-songwriters who blend folk, pop and alternative country. Later based in Nashville, she came to notice in the mid-2000s on the indie scene with a sound centered on voice, guitar and a direct melodic sense, which took shape on her debut album Skin and Bone (2007). The mix of folk ballads and brighter pop was refined on Plastic Moon (2012) and Phantom (2014), a period when she split her time between Nashville and Los Angeles and also wrote for other musicians. Beginning with History of a Feeling (2021), released on ANTI-, Diaz tightened her songwriting around very intimate lyrics carried by spare arrangements at the border of americana and indie rock. The album Weird Faith, released in 2024, continues this approach by introducing a few vocal collaborations and exploring duo dynamics more deeply, while retaining the core of her aesthetic: narrative songs, a restrained vocal style and understated production.
