S.G. Goodman

Rooted in the rural west of Kentucky, United States, S.G. Goodman stands in an American tradition where country, folk, indie rock, and Americana intersect. After early experiences with the band The Savage Radley on the local indie scene, she developed, under her own name, a repertoire centered on stories of rural life, the South’s social tensions, and an intimate reflection on faith and queer identity. Coming from a farming family and shaped by a Baptist environment, Goodman turns this context into writing material, her grainy voice foregrounded by stripped‑down arrangements that move between slow folk ballads, soulful inflections, and rougher‑edged rock guitars. The release of Old Time Feeling in 2020, produced by Jim James of My Morning Jacket and issued by Verve Forecast, cemented this approach, blending social chronicle with understated psychedelic hues. In 2022, Teeth Marks deepened this aesthetic with compositions in which Goodman explores emotional ties, memory, and inner fractures, while remaining close to the codes of traditional songwriting. On stage, she alternates between electric lineups and more pared‑back formats, moving through the network of independent venues and festivals across the United States.
