Lido Pimienta

Born in Barranquilla, Colombia, and settled in Canada — first in London and later in Toronto — Lido Pimienta has, since the early 2010s, developed a musical writing that links art pop, synthpop and Latin American music with Afro‑Colombian and Indigenous traditional forms such as cumbia and bullerengue. She released her debut album Color in 2010, and returned in 2016 with the self‑produced La Papessa, a major milestone in her career that won the Polaris Music Prize in 2017. That same year she appears on several tracks of We Are the Halluci Nation by the Canadian group The Halluci Nation. Her work is characterized by pared‑down electronic arrangements, prominently placed vocals, and a constant attention to Caribbean rhythms and issues of identity, migration and cultural heritage. With Miss Colombia (2020) she continued this approach, blending experimental pop, synthetic textures and direct references to Colombian culture, and she broadened her scope with Lido TV in 2022, a television format she both wrote and produced. In 2025 she released La Belleza, a work that incorporates more orchestral writing.
