Long Distance Calling
Formed in Münster, Germany in 2006, Long Distance Calling develops an instrumental post-rock that intersects with post-metal, progressive rock and ambient textures. Their tracks often rely on repetition, gradual builds and a contrast between clean guitar passages and heavier, more massive sections. The quartet first drew attention with the demo Dmnstrtn in 2006, and followed with Satellite Bay (2007), Avoid the Light (2009) and the self-titled Long Distance Calling (2011) — three records that established a long-form, cinematic writing style largely without vocals. The band has occasionally opened their music to guest vocalists, notably Peter Dolving, Jonas Renkse and John Bush, and incorporated more sung parts on The Flood Inside (2013) and Trips (2016), with Martin Fischer joining and collaboration with Norwegian singer Petter Carlsen. They returned to an entirely instrumental formula on Boundless (2018), and continued with How Do We Want to Live? (2020) and Eraser (2022). Over the years Long Distance Calling has toured with 65daysofstatic, Opeth, Katatonia and Anathema and played both clubs and festivals such as Rock am Ring, Wacken, Summer Breeze and Euroblast.
