Lionheart
Formed in Oakland, California, in 2004, Lionheart belongs to the American hardcore tradition with a sound that mixes hardcore punk, metalcore and beatdown influences, driven by 2‑step rhythms, massive guitars and forceful vocals. Centered around Rob Watson, Lionheart emerged on the West Coast hardcore scene in the mid‑2000s, releasing the EP This Means War in 2006 and their debut album The Will to Survive in 2007. The band followed up with Built on Struggle in 2011 and Undisputed in 2012, touring extensively across hardcore venues in the United States and Europe, including tours and festivals associated with that circuit. After the EP Welcome to the West Coast in 2014, Lionheart released Love Don’t Live Here in 2016, shortly before announcing a split the same year. The hiatus was brief: Lionheart resumed activities in 2017, issued Welcome to the West Coast II that year, then Valley of Death in 2019 and Welcome to the West Coast III in 2022. Across these releases, Lionheart has maintained a direct, compact and physical aesthetic, positioned between Bay Area hardcore and a heavier metal‑hardcore sound.
