Judith Hill

Born in Los Angeles in 1984, Judith Hill grew up in a family of professional musicians, where African‑American soul culture and Japanese influences shaped her relationship to singing and songwriting from an early age. Trained in piano and gospel, she first attracted attention as a backing vocalist on major tours, notably with Michael Jackson, before appearing in the documentary “20 Feet from Stardom,” which highlights that behind‑the‑scenes work. Her participation in the fourth season of The Voice in the United States opened a more exposed phase of her career, during which she established a style blending contemporary soul, R&B, funk and pop touches, marked by prominent use of choirs and arrangements that often feel close to live performance. From the mid‑2010s, her collaboration with Prince—both in the studio and onstage—played a key role in shaping her identity as a singer‑songwriter and instrumentalist, with concerts spanning clubs, theaters and international festivals. Her debut album “Back in Time” was released in 2015, followed by “Golden Child” in 2018 and “Baby, I’m Hollywood!” in 2021 — three records in which she develops a strongly narrative approach to songwriting, centered on the lead voice, soul harmonies and grooves inspired as much by 1970s funk and R&B as by neo‑soul. Between studio recordings and regular touring, Judith Hill continues to navigate several musical scenes—from independent American soul to pop and jazz circuits—maintaining a close link between vocal performance, stagecraft and arrangement work.
