Les Wampas

Les Wampas is a French rock band founded in the early 1980s by Didier Wampas, an emblematic and hard-to-classify figure on the alternative scene. Fueled by punk energy and a deliberate taste for mockery, the band carved out a place for itself with a unique style blending rockabilly, punk, yéyé and offbeat pop. With cult songs like “Manu Chao,” “Chirac en prison,” “Rimini” and “Petite fille,” Les Wampas have built a career defined by humor, provocation and a disarmingly sincere approach. Beneath the sharp riffs and unrestrained choruses they cultivate total freedom, rejecting conventions and labels. On stage Didier Wampas embodies the joyful chaos of rock, leaping into the crowd and shouting his choruses with undiminished fervor after more than forty years of activity. Above all, Les Wampas are a living legend of French rock — a punk and poetic cry of love thrown at the world, somewhere between tenderness, insolence and gentle madness.
