Punk is not dead and the Wampas are very much alive. The sets by these restless ones are like cyclones that sweep everything before them, guitars at the forefront, and they refresh the atmosphere.
You who have seen them grow up, or you who didn’t see them coming when they burst onto the French scene in 1983; you who they make laugh, wiggle, pogo; you who dream of singing along in chorus to the Chirac in prison refrain (a tune that those under twenty won’t know, etc.) or who have been hyped by ‘Sauver le monde’… Don’t forget: the Wampas love you.
Led by the wiry, scruffy runt Didier Wampas, with his voice on the edge of being in tune and his hilarious lyrics, the Wampas, like the Ramones in French, have not lost any of their punk energy, their bluntness, nor their unapologetically rebellious authenticity. How can one not trust these ‘old men with guitars,’ who are starting to show their age but somehow stay fifteen years old for eternity?
