Déportivo
Born in the western suburbs of Paris in the late 1990s, the trio Déportivo formed in Bois-d’Arcy in 1998 around Jérôme Coudanne (vocals, guitar), Richard Magnac (bass) and Julien Bonnet (drums). Rooted in the continuity of French alternative rock and nourished by indie and punk references, Déportivo developed a direct sound centered on a power-trio format, with taut guitars, tight rhythms and vocals often delivered in a spoken-sung style. Noticed at the turn of the 2000s on the French rock scene, the band played numerous club shows and festivals, progressively establishing a repertoire mostly in French. Their first album, Parmi eux (2004), set a nervous and concise tone, followed by an eponymous record, Deportivo (2007), which further emphasized the contrast between electric urgency and melody. With Ivres et débutants (2011), Déportivo explored more open structures, slower tempos and more introspective lyrics, before continuing this evolution toward a guitar-driven but even more contrasted rock on Domino (2013).
