Joe Bel

A singer-songwriter from Grenoble, Joe Bel has been developing since the early 2010s a musical world that blends folk, soul and pop, characterized by intimate songwriting and mostly acoustic arrangements. After studying literature and art history she settled in Lyon, where she began performing solo with a guitar in 2012. Discovered by Asaf Avidan in 2013, she accompanied him on part of his European tour and then opened for acts such as Tryo, Imany, Anaïs and Corneille, which established her on concert and festival stages in France and abroad. In 2015 the EP Hit the Roads was released, taking her across Europe and as far as Japan, while also leading to film work: she plays a singer in Cyril Gelblat’s film Tout pour être heureux, and several of her songs are part of the soundtrack. Her first studio album, Dreams, came out in 2018 on the La Ruche label, recorded in Montréal with producer Marcus Paquin and marked by a crossing of North American folk and song in English and French. From 2020 she prepared Family Tree, an album released in March 2024 that centers on her family origins and opens her music to more Mediterranean colours, with texts in French, English and Ladino, arranged with pianist Julien Jussey at La Ciergerie studio in Lyon. At the same time Joe Bel has continued touring in France, Québec and across Europe, including an invitation to the Sziget Festival in Budapest in 2023.
