Charles Pasi
Born in Paris within a Franco-Italian milieu, Charles Pasi has since the mid-2000s built a repertoire at the crossroads of blues, soul, jazz, folk and pop, driven by a slightly husky voice and a central emphasis on the harmonica. Trained in Rome at the Saint Louis Jazz School and then in Paris, he first drew attention on the blues scene with the EP Mainly Blue in 2006, after having won in 2005 the electro-acoustic prize at Tremplin Blues sur Seine and a prize at the FestiBlues de Montréal. His path then broadened toward a more open writing with the EP Uncaged in 2009 and the album Uncaged in 2011, on which Archie Shepp appears. Charles Pasi asserts a blend of modern blues, supple soul, funk touches and rock accents, while continuing a live activity nourished in France and internationally. After Sometimes Awake in 2014, he joined Blue Note for Bricks in 2017, a record that extends this aesthetic by adding a more electric tension and a more frontal look at the contemporary world. Zebra appears in 2021, in a more instinctive vein, between organic grooves, acoustic contrasts and band energy. Charles Pasi has also collaborated with Carla Bruni and provided support slots for artists such as Neil Young, Santana, Zaz or Jean-Louis Aubert, while moving between jazz festivals, general venues and blues stages.
