Eric Hutchinson

American singer-songwriter Eric Hutchinson developed his songwriting between Washington D.C., where he was born in 1980, and the Maryland suburb of Takoma Park, before continuing his career from New York. Working in a pop vein with soul and folk inflections, Hutchinson crafts songs centered on the voice, piano or guitar, with a marked taste for immediate melodic hooks and everyday narratives. After a self-produced debut, That Could’ve Gone Better (2003), he was noticed with Sounds Like This in 2007, which established his name on the American pop scene. His discography has since grown with studio albums such as Moving Up Living Down (2012), Pure Fiction (2014), Easy Street (2016), Modern Happiness (2018) and Class of 98 (2020), where he alternately explores blue-eyed soul, acoustic pop and references to 1990s rock. Active on the club circuit, in mid-sized venues and at festivals, Hutchinson alternates between solo and band shows, favoring an accessible songwriter format geared toward live performance.
