Jungle by Night

Formed in Amsterdam in 2009, Jungle by Night brings together young Dutch musicians around an initially instrumental repertoire in which afrobeat, funk and jazz shape a dense brass sound, driven by a rhythm section that also borrows from dub and rock. Jungle by Night started on local stages before quickly expanding to clubs and festivals across Europe, sharing early bills with artists such as Mulatu Astatke, Mayer Hawthorne and The Roots. The band also organised several editions of Felabration in Amsterdam, a series of concerts conceived as a tribute to Fela Kuti. After a self‑titled debut in 2011, Jungle by Night released Hidden (2012), The Hunt (2014), The Traveller (2016) and Livingstone (2018), with songwriting that gradually moved away from a solely afrobeat inheritance to incorporate more psychedelic textures, looser grooves and more open formats. This evolution continued with Algorhythm (2021) and Synergy (2024). Having become a septet after several lineup changes, Jungle by Night also brought more vocals into their music from the single "In de Steek" in 2023, without abandoning their collective work on rhythmic trance and group arrangements.
