Jimmy Edgar

Born in Detroit in 1983 and raised in Roseville, Michigan, Jimmy Edgar developed at a very early age a practice of music and sound experimentation, between instruments, analog tape recordings and the local rave culture. Active since the late 1990s, Edgar's work sits within a Detroit-influenced electronic aesthetic, where techno, electro, hip-hop and contemporary R&B intersect, with a constant taste for sensual textures, syncopated rhythms and futuristic-tinged productions. After early projects under different names, he released the EPs Access Rhythm and Bounce, Make, Model in 2004 on Warp, followed by the Color Strip album in 2006, before continuing with XXX in 2010 and Majenta in 2012. Having lived briefly in Berlin and then active also in Los Angeles, Jimmy Edgar developed a career as a producer, DJ and artistic director, notably through Ultramajic, the label founded in 2013 with Pilar Zeta. His work moves between clubs, festivals and collaborations tied to electronic and R&B scenes, with projects led alongside Machinedrum in J-E-T-S, but also appearances with SOPHIE, Vince Staples, Dawn Richard, Tkay Maidza or Danny Brown. Most recently, Edgar released the albums Cheetah Bend in 2021 and Liquids Heaven in 2022, extending an approach where forms of club music dialog with pop vocal lines and highly stylised sound constructions.
