Cakes da Killa
Born in Teaneck, New Jersey, and active in New York, Cakes da Killa has, since the early 2010s, built a trajectory at the crossroads of rap, house and club music. Initially noticed through a series of mixtapes and EPs released on the independent circuit, he is part of a queer rap scene closely connected to ballroom, dance and electronic cultures. His style rests on a rapid flow, dense and direct writing, and productions that blend hip-hop, vocal house, bass music and club energy. Over the years Cakes da Killa has broadened his scope with collaborations in both rap and electronic music, notably with Honey Dijon, Kaytranada, TOKiMONSTA and Kevin Saunderson. After several shorter formats he released the album Svengali in 2022, which continues this meeting between New York rap, house and dancefloor aesthetics. On stage, Cakes da Killa moves between clubs and festivals, in a register where the MC’s presence remains central to the project.
