High Tone

High Tone, a Lyon-based band formed in 1997, has established itself as one of the French touchstones of independent dub, adopting an approach grounded in studio experimentation and collective work. From the outset the group developed an autonomous method built around the home studio, artisanal production and a horizontal mode of operation that has strongly marked its identity. In the late 1990s High Tone multiplied its gigs and gradually integrated into the alternative European network, becoming an important player in the dub scene and in its intersections with other currents. The 2000s confirmed this momentum through a succession of projects, tours and collaborations that enriched their trajectory and reinforced their place within the independent landscape. The following decade extended this logic: the band continued its research, refined its internal language and conceived projects as cycles rather than market-driven responses. Among these parallel undertakings is Zentone, conceived with Zenzile, which became a meeting space for two major formations of French dub. Today High Tone continues to operate in the studio and on stage, with a stable line-up and a pace dictated by its own creative processes. This path, spanning more than two decades, testifies to a rare continuity in the French dub scene and to a commitment to a method founded on longevity, independence and artistic coherence.
