Kanka
Active since the late 1990s, Kanka has been developing in France a dub at the crossroads of reggae, electronics, and the stepper, with a pronounced taste for dense bass, punchy rhythms and repetitive textures. As a multi-instrumentalist who joined the group King Riddim from 1997, he first builds his approach in the wake of reggae before evolving his work toward a more upfront form of dub, nourished as much by British productions as by the Jamaican heritage. After a first self-produced album, Every Night’s Dub (2003), Kanka releases Don’t Stop Dub (2005), Alert (2006), Sub.Mersion (2009) and Dub Communication (2011), then Watch Your Step (2014), Abracadabra "Chapter 1" (2015), Cool It (2016), Interaction (2018), My Bubble (2021) and Speakers Speak (2024). His live career has also been built on stage, often with Mc Oliva and Chris B, in a setup that blends production, vocals and instrumental interventions. Kanka has also collaborated with Brother Culture and, in parallel, led the Alek6 project, oriented toward dubstep, with the album Inside released in 2010.
